Everton under-21 manager David Unsworth has hailed the duo of Jamie Mellen and Callum Lees.

Mellen, 17, and Lees, 16, made their respective debuts for the Everton Under-21 side during the Lancashire Senior Cup match against Preston North End recently and the duo played an integral role in helping the Toffees claim a fine 3-0 victory.

It is clear to see that both Mellen and Lees are very highly rated by the Everton hierarchy and club under-21 manager David Unsworth has now gone on to hail the duo.

Unsworth revealed that in addition to their fine performance against Preston North End, Mellen and Lees impressed while training with the first team as well and the coach is backing the teenage duo to break into the senior side in the foreseeable future.

Unsworth told Everton’s official website, “A special mention must also go to the two young lads, Jamie Mellen and Callum Lees, who I thought were terrific.

“I have to say they thoroughly deserved to be playing tonight because we trained with the first-team a couple of days ago and they were outstanding.”
