Joe Cole has ambitiously stated that he wants to play in the Champions League with Aston Villa.

Aston Villa are one of only five English teams to have claimed the top prize in European football when they defeated Bayern Munich 1-0 at Rotterdam back in 1982.

The victory was arguably the crowning moment in Villa’s rich history but the Midlands side have since not come close to repeating their remarkable feat.

Now nearly 35 years on from their brilliant victory in Rotterdam, even participating in the Champions League looks like a distant dream for Villa.

Nonetheless, star Joe Cole is still optimistic about Villa’s chances and has stated his ambition that he wants to play in Europe elite’s club competition with the 1982 champions.

Speaking regarding former side Chelsea’s triumph in Europe back in 2012, Cole said that he would like to have been a part of the victory but insisted that he is still hopeful of replicating the feat with Villa.

Cole told the Goals on Sunday show on Sky Sports 1, “A lot of my friends won it, so it was a little bit of like ‘wish I was there’. But I am pleased for them. There is still time. Villa, we, might get there.”
