Sheffield United News

Just when it looked like Sheffield United would be able to mount a sustained bid for one of the playoff places following the 1-0 away victory over Doncaster last weekend, the Blades went on to suffer an extremely disappointing defeat with the same score against Bury in midweek.

The defeat means that Sheffield are back to square one after dropping down to 9th place in the table and manager Nigel Adkins is now once again under pressure to get his side back to winning ways. Up next is a clash against Port Vale at Bramall Lane and the encounter is set to be a huge test for the Blades.

Sheffield United Probable Lineup: Long; McEveley, Edgar, Basham, Brayford; Reed, Hammond, Campbell-Ryce, Baxter, Calvert-Lewin; Adams

Port Vale News

Port Vale finished in a lowly 18th position in the English League One last season but they have enjoyed a much more productive campaign this term and are in contention to finish in one of the play off places.

However, the competition is really fierce at the moment and the Valiants will need to claim a victory from their visit to Bramall Lane against Sheffield United this weekend in order to move closer to achieving their dreams of earning promotion this season.

Port Vale Probable Lineup: Alnwick; Dickinson, McGivern, Duffy, Purkiss; Kennedy, Foley, Grant, Moore; Robinson, Leitch-Smith

Sheffield United and Port Vale have share two victories each in their last four encounters and it is difficult to predict which side will come out on top on Saturday as the two teams are very extremely closely matched.

Sheffield perhaps are favourites due to home advantage though and might just be able to claim a narrow victory on the day.

Sheffield United 2 – 1 Port Vale
