Rafael Benitez decided against making a move for Alberto Moreno on transfer deadline day, according to reports from AS.

Alberto Moreno had been a disappointment during his debut season with Liverpool and with the Spaniard having fallen down the pecking order behind Joe Gomez during the current campaign; it was widely believed that the defender would be leaving Anfield this summer.

Surprisingly, it was Spanish giants Real Madrid who had expressed their interest in signing Moreno as they were looking for a replacement for the departed Fabio Coentrao and a £12million move coming into fruition had been seen as a possibility.

However the transfer did not come into fruition and it has now been revealed by Spanish publication AS (as cited by the Express) that Madrid manager Rafael Benitez pulled the plug on the deal during the last minute.
