Liverpool had made a last ditch attempt to sign Andriy Yarmolenko on deadline day, according to reports from Tutto Mercato.

Despite being linked with a number of players, Liverpool were fairly quiet on transfer deadline day and the only piece of business that the Reds conducted was to send out Tiago Illori on loan to Aston Villa.

Nonetheless, Liverpool’s inability to bring in a new player to the club was not for the want of trying as it has been revealed that the Reds had formally placed a bid for Andriy Yarmolenko.

Liverpool had been linked with a move for Yarmolenko during the final weeks of the transfer window and according to Tutto Mercato (as cited by Liverpool-Kop), the Premier League side had decided to activate the attacking midfielder’s release clause of around £14.5million.

However, Liverpool’s bid seemingly came too late for the transfer to be concluded in time before the end of the window and the Reds will have to return in January to sign Yarmolenko.
