Legend reveals why he is not working with Aston Villa at the moment
Aston Villa legend Stiliyan Petrov has revealed why he is not working in a coaching capacity under manager Tim Sherwood this season.
After his successful battle against Leukemia, Petrov returned to Aston Villa in a coaching capacity following the appointment of Tim Sherwood as the manager during the latter part of last season.
It was believed that Petrov would be remaining in his role as Sherwood’s coaching staff during the current campaign as well but the former midfielder has decided not to continue.
Now Petrov has gone on to reveal why he decided to leave Villa. The club legend stated that he is currently very busy with other endeavors such as taking up coaching badges, working on his foundation as well as spending quality time with his family and explained that he simply cannot commit himself to full time coaching at the moment.
Petrov told the Evening Times, “I was involved at Villa last season when Paul Lambert got sacked and Tim Sherwood took over. He invited me to come along so I was there for the last few months. He wanted me involved this season but I don’t think I’m ready to be committed to anything like that.
“I have been through a lot, my family has been through a lot, so while I am doing my coaching badges, I am working a lot on the foundation, we are trying to support a lot of people. I am quite busy.
“I have even taken up golf, something I said I would never do. I really enjoy my life at the moment. I am happy doing what I am doing. I do what I want to do and spend time with the family.”
