Liverpool’s Daniel Sturridge will be missing in action when his team visits the Emirates for the English Premier League opener this weekend. The England forward missed the Reds impressive 4-0 victory over Barcelona on Friday and is looking like he will miss the Arsenal clash as well.

The news represents a massive disappointment for the player who has had his fair share of lengthy layoffs in recent seasons.

Last season, he made only 14 Premier League appearances, though did net an impressive tally of eight goals which is an amazing return considering action time seen.

When fully fit, Sturridge is Liverpool’s tormentor in chief with regards to opposition defences, with his technique, pace and finishing ability making him a threat at all times.

Divock Origi and new signing Sadio Mane who both impressed against Barcelona are the attacking options manager Klopp is believed to considering for the Arsenal tie.

Meanwhile, the regularity with which Sturridge has been unavailable for matches will surely be a major concern for Liverpool who are bent on making a big statement this season.

On the other hand, weekend opponent, Arsenal fans will be heaving a sigh of relief for this development as a Liverpool team without the goal scoring threat of the former Chelsea striker looks more beatable.

The player has over the years proved to be one for the big occasions which gives high profile oppositions cause for concern with Sevilla in the Europa League final and Wales at Euro 2016 some of his recent conquests.

Both Mane and Origi don’t hold as much threat in front of goal as Sturridge does which is a big blow for the five times European champions and a relief for their London opponents.

With Arsenal having their own problems at the back given Per Mertasacker’s recent injury, the team is contemplating a make shift arrangement with Francis Coquelin playing as a centre back, which would have been an opportunity for Sturridge to wreak havoc.
