Agent Mark McKay, who brokered West Ham United’s move for Dimitri Payet, has revealed that the Hammers could have ended up paying around £25million for the French star.

West Ham United pulled off a couple of fantastic signings in the transfer window this summer but arguably the pick of the lot was the capture of French star Dimitri Payet.

Payet had been one of the most creative players in Europe over the last few seasons with the likes of Lille and Marseille, and for West Ham United to have swooped in for the 28-year old ahead of a host of top clubs can be seen as a huge coup for the London side.

It was reported that West Ham had paid around £10million to secure the services of Payet but agent Mark McKay has explained that the Hammers could have ended up paying much more if it were not for his intervention.

Speaking regarding Payet’s transfer to West Ham, McKay said, “Everyone wanted Payet. We showed the way to West Ham. If they were going to discuss with Marseille without us, they would have ended up paying €25m or €30m.

“When a club in the Premier League is in France, the prices are doubled. I can understand that. Apart from PSG and some big European teams, nobody can compete.”
